A Stouffville kitchen in Viatera Velo quartz, from measure to install in 12 days
Counters, peninsula, full-height slab backsplash and a matching coffee bar, cut in our Newmarket shop and installed in one visit.
The cabinets were already in: new white shaker from another shop, bare particleboard tops and drywall behind the range. The homeowners knew how they wanted the room to feel, calm and white, with a bit of movement in the stone and not a single grout line to scrub. They also wanted the coffee bar across the room to look like it belonged to the same kitchen. We supplied, cut and installed the stone; the cabinets stayed exactly as they were.

Decisions along the way
- The quote started with two Silestone colours, Miami Vena and Eternal Statuario. Then the homeowners came to the showroom, put the samples side by side and left with Viatera Velo instead.
- The peninsula ends in an open shelf. Rather than stop the stone at the cabinet, we ran the overhang out to the end of the shelf, so shelf and countertop finish on one line and the end of the peninsula reads as one piece.
- A light valance under the uppers was in the way of the full-height slab. It came down for the install and went back up afterwards. A small thing, but it is what lets the backsplash run cleanly up to the cabinets.
- Both slabs were ordered together with a request for the same lot, so the counters, the splash behind the range and the coffee bar read as one stone rather than three.
- Counters and backsplash went in together, in one visit, on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

The sink is undermount, mounted by us with supports under it, and the whole job carries our 2-year workmanship warranty on top of LX Hausys' warranty on the stone. Bare boxes to a finished kitchen in under two weeks, with a holiday weekend in between.
What it would cost
Viatera Velo is in our Designer tier: from $92 per sq ft installed, with the built-up mitred edge, one undermount sink cut-out and faucet hole, delivery and installation in the price. The full-height backsplash is priced at the same rate per sq ft as the counters; a standard 4" splash, like the one on the coffee bar, is $18 per linear foot. The sink itself is extra, from $350.
